Firm partner Luis Marín is the head of our competition and intellectual property practices and a member of the transactional (M&A) team.

His focus is on competition issues, intellectual property, and corporate and transactional counseling for national and foreign companies.

He provides a wide spectrum of competition legal services, including preventive counsel on matters regarding market power abuse, cartels, merger control, State aid, and unfair competition, as well as counsel at administrative and judicial proceedings on such matters. Luis has honed his skills in over 30 merger control notification proceedings before the regulatory authority and has successfully participated in dozens of suits, including Andean community proceedings, regarding unfair competition, abuse of market power, and collusive agreements.

He provides strategic intellectual property counsel for the broadest and most efficient protection of intangible assets in Ecuador and internationally, including trademarks, trade names, industrial designs, patents, copyrights, designations of origin, plant varieties, and others. He leads the dispute representation team and defends such rights in administrative and judicial proceedings, including border control measure proceedings with the Ecuadorian customs service.

Before joining Lexvalor Abogados, Luis served as a senior associate at other local firms and gained international experience as an International Associate and member of the competition disputes team at White & Case in Brussels, where he participated in cases before the European Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
